Everything has a price
Who:
prodigal_axe and
adventlead
Where: The wrecked area on Marshall Street
When: About 3:30 AM
Rating: PG-13 to R for language and possible violence
Summary: Shinjiro tried to axe down the locks to Latimir, and failed. Eventually he returns home in a daze.
the log:
The wreckage loomed before him in a haze of night.
Home. The axe hung from his aching right hand. A few streets away, most of the people he knew were trapped in the Latimir apartment. Minato. He'd be fine. After Tartarus, Shadows, and the Dark Hour, he could handle a few locks. Sakura--she'd already had to die once over Walter's mess. Soul, and Miku. The names taunted him. What happened to the old Shinji, who never let anyone near him. His wisdom was gambled on a new life, in a new place, and he had begun to see the possible losses in growing close to people. His own advice had kept two of them in there. So, he continued to be responsible for the pain of others.
One of his closest friends waited for him in the ruined mess. In trying to help the others, and failing, he'd also hurt this one.
Hell, why did I let myself lose control? He can't take it any more than the others. I keep forgetting that.
Shinji sheathed his axe with a listless motion and stepped across the street, past the broken bench and scattered plaster. He rounded the corner and strode right into 'home.' The shattered windows, broken walls, sidewalks broken and bursting with weeds. He felt relieved despite himself.
"Hey Kadaj? You around here." His voice didn't give away his upset. Good. Just because he felt comfortable around someone, or close to them, didn't mean he would unload on them. Aki did that kind of thing. He wouldn't, not after that. At least not easily.
Remember what you are, what you've done. You can be a friend without forcing others to share your burdens.
He tried to keep that advice in his thoughts while he looked around for Kadaj. "I'm home."
