Private Chinese New Year
Who: China and Stocking
Where: China's Apartment
When: January 22, 2012
Rating: PG-13 for language (If rating changes, I'll change it.)
Summary: China remembers the promise he made with Stocking before he left and came back from 2012.
The Log:
During the night before, China had a dream, but not just any dream, it was a recollection. A memory of the Christmas he and Stocking had spent together. Now it made much more sense to him as to why the black necklace Stocking wore around her neck made him feel some kind of familiar sensation. Just as she said, he was the one who made it for her. He also remembered how she suggested they spend New Years together, but only the two of them, alone. The Western New Years may have already passed, but there was still Chinese New Year, and this year was the Year of the Dragon. He had left her a voicemail early in the morning, inviting her over to his apartment.
Of course China was hoping to be able to spend it with his family too, but he didn't see any real harm that could come from celebrating it with Stocking alone a day early. Besides, he would be leaving with the others to retrieve those animals any day now. Though he wasn't able to get as many ingredients as he could back home, it was a decent display of food. Remembering Stocking's love for sweets, he made mostly desserts, which included the longevity buns he always told her about and a small Chinese candy box. He had managed to find the green house in Discedo while exploring for ingredients and grabbed a few seeds, fruits, and vegetables that were available at the time. He had made two candy boxes. One for Stocking, and the other for his family, though neither of them were as elaborate as he would have hoped.
He made sure to clean the place up and dress in his red outfit. There was already some tea at the table and the paper artwork Hong Kong had anonymously put up on the windows was still there. Also, he had hung up the paper cranes Stocking had given to him on Christmas from the ceiling and the charm Taiwan had given him before his flight was hanging near his futon.
"Everything looks ready." he observed his work.

[About ten minutes into the meal, China puts his chopsticks down and folds his hands in his lap.]
May I ask you something, Stocking? It's about when I was here last time.

Sure.

So it's just as I thought... See, I've connected certain pieces together, but I still have no memories of those particular things. Right now, our Christmas is the only thing I've managed to remember. Which [He takes her hand into his own.] isn't bad at all, aru.
[He glances at the clock in the room.] Ah, it's already that time! I'll go get the liquor. [He separates from her so he can retrieve the spirits in the other room. This was also his way of swiftly changing the subject. It was New Years after all!]

Sounds good. Have any sugar?

[Sure enough, he comes back holding a bottle, two cups, and a container filled with sugar.]
Here. [He places the sugar container near her on the table while he opens the bottle and pours the clear liquid into both cups.]

Thanks love.

but damn that's a lot of sugar.]Of course. [He puts his own drink to his lips and drinks it down like a shot.]
Do you want any more?

[ She smiles at him then snuggels up to him. ]

This is probably the smallest Chinese New Years I've ever celebrated, but... I like it, very much. [He smiles.]

Though, I recall that Valentine's Day is next month as well. We should do something then.

You know, there's a Chinese holiday called the Qīxī Jié and this year it's supposed to take place August sixth. It's sort of like a "Chinese Valentine's Day."

Of course, Niulang was very upset about this, but he had no idea what to do until his ox started talking to him one day. The ox instructed Niulang to kill him and wear his hide so he would gain the power to travel to heaven and get his wife back. Niulang did as he was told and, taking his two children with him, flew off to heaven. The Goddess soon discovered what he was trying to do, though, and used her hairpin to create a wide river of stars in the sky to keep Niulang and Zhinü separated forever. This river was the Milky Way.
Because of the river, the two lovers can only sit on one side and watch each other from across, but hope isn't completely lost to them for once a year all the magpies in the world form a bridge with their wings so that they can be together for a single night.
