Summary: Finding an angst-ridden kid. Five bucks says Adam punches him.

The Log:

It was unusual to have anyone up at the observatory, let alone someone during the daytime. It was so quiet that some thought of it as a good place to collect their thoughts. Adam knew that well enough, having used the place a couple of times when someone has left Fortuna or just too much crap was going on.

The building greeted him in silence, unaware that someone else was in there with him.

For someone with amazing powers, his reflexes kinda suck. But Adam doesn't regret it and starts to speak.

"Do you expect to wallow in self pity all this time?! No one will want to be around you if you keep it up! And don't give me that crap about being better off alone because that's a lie!"

Danny struggles back to his feet and glares at him. "This is not self-pity! People are hurt because of me! People could have died! Will die, if this happens again! All because I couldn't keep one promise!"

"Then tell me why no one told you of the risks of when you got your chip out?"

He's not backing down one damn bit.

"I know you don't have it anymore because of that little vanishing trick earlier."

"They told me that my powers would go out of control. Not that I would turn into my evil future jerky self from an alternate timeline that doesn't exist any more! I know it doesn't exist, because I destroyed any chance of that future existing myself!"

He looks away, still rubbing at his injury.

"And... I never asked to have it removed."

"...what? Someone forced it out of you?"

"Last thing I remember was a weird message on my communicator. Then I was waking up in the rubble with three days of memories of being him.

"Weird message?"

The ranger pinches the bridge of his nose and sighed.

"So they decide to screw up powers too?"

"Something about an anarchist."

[kungfublackfrog]

"...sounds like their sense of humor."

He stops again before sitting again, expression remaining neutral but his eyes told a different story.

"It's something you can't beat yourself up on. Sometimes powers can go out of control here, it's not your fault that you changed into something like that. You said that the timeline he's from has been destroyed, right? Time works differently here and I bet it hasn't changed in your world."

Adam had a question after remembering the part where Danny said he had attacked people; Marco had told him earlier that Owen's assistant got hurt around the same time this occured, right? So was Danny the one who did it?

It was tempting to ask but the man held his tongue.

He is silent for a long moment.

"I made a promise."

"Who says you broke it? Quit assuming that this was your fault."

[schrodingersghost]

"How can it not be my fault? I made a promise never to turn into... that. I promised that I would protect everyone."

"Do you need a second reminder?"

Yes, that was Adam threatening to punch you again Danny.

"How many times do I have to keep telling you the same thing: it's NOT your fault."

"How can it not be?"

"There's no possible way after getting that thing out of your body to control your abilities. I learned the hard way."

"I know how to handle out of control powers. I've had to learn how to deal with them. Isn't like there's a user's manual for what I am. This is something completely different. This is something else coming in and using me to hurt people. Except its still me., Still my fault that it even existed."

"...so are you going to feel sorry for yourself for the rest of your life or will you stand up and do something about it?"

"I am doing something about it."

[kungfublackfrog]

"Given what you've been saying, that doesn't sound very good."

[schrodingersghost]

"I'm staying far away from everyone while I figure out what to do."

"...like running away?"

[schrodingersghost]

"Wouldn't do any good."

He was talking about Danny doing the running. It's good that the kid had some sense not to do that because it would only take you so far. As in, not even freaking close.

"The only thing you can do is face it head on. Sure it's scary as hell but once that fear is conquered, nothing else can touch you unless you let it."

Danny gives him an annoyed look. "I've done that part already. Had the bruises to prove it. But this isn't something I can fix by shoving it into the thermos."

"Bruises better than scars. At least those go away in time."

A sigh.

"Just...make sure the decision is the right one for you. No regrets."
