the log:
The streets had long gone dark, and Nani was a little worried, as always, for anyone finding their way in the dark. Mr. Yagami certainly sounded competent enough to take care of himself, but the city was dangerous at night, and even by the light of the world's strange two moons, it was hard to distinguish if the figures moving down the block were shadows of monsters, or people.
She'd put Lilo to sleep, at least, while typing on her communicator, heating up water with the very last of her plastic lighter to start it...electric stoves and coffeemakers were sorely missed in this place, but by now she was swift with boiling water and steeped grinds, filters and mugs. And finally two steaming, sweetened mugs were carried carefully downstairs, wondering who would beat who to the first floor lobby, a small front room with a few chairs and old unused mailboxes and a bookshelf.
Nani was curious about Light. He seemed to have big plans for the city, promised them, even. Many tried for the best here, but few waltzed in and promised stability, fairness, organized help...and half of her, perhaps grown up too quick for twenty one, wanted to scoff gently and amusedly, because people didn't cooperate so smoothly, and you just had to bear with them, mostly...but the other half of her was intrigued and idealistic and desperately wanted something good to believe in again.
