An object in motion wants to stay in motion, and that was exactly what Denzel's body was all the way from their penthouse, to the bar. If only if the poor man wasn't so thin, he'd could actually get away, "For the thousandth time, I don't drink!"

She did make an attempt to hide her amusement, though it might have been less than successful.

"Suit yourself." She considers that a moment, finally shaking her head. "As well as can be expected. I might be more inclined to settle if they hadn't so carelessly toyed with my mind."

"STOP IT!" Apparently someone doesn't like to be the amusement.

There's a pause as he eyes her directly, "I don't like them either." Spitting out venom.

She eyes him with a mixture of confusion and concern. "Of course."

"I don't believe I've met anyone who does."

"I am not here to be laughed at."

[He eyes her for a moment with a pause] "I didn't like scientists before I arrived here." In his sub text, being here has just made him hate scientists more.

Another pause, "Akward silence.... What's your universe like, hmmm?"

"Not all scientists are so cruel or difficult to trust."

But she will move on without adding that she is a scientist, herself. "Earth. Cities, bustling with people. Everyone going about their life with no understanding of the world they live in."

"People in general are cruel and difficult to trust. Scientists are just worse."

Whether or not Denzel was a scientist was a debatable, he certainly looked the part. Pink shirt, with pens in the pocket, those glasses. Ok, maybe more a stereotype nerd but still. At the very least he did not identify himself as one of them. After all, what scientist believes in magic and has emotions?

Pause, "So, nothing supernatural?"

"Yet this is the world we must live in."

She could make an argument that scientists simply believe in a different sort of magic. And that many of them most certainly had emotions.

"I suppose that would depend on how you define supernatural ability."

Denzel makes a diguisted groan. His blue eyes appearing cold and distant from behind his lenses.

"A child wishing to switch bodies for starters. Transforming the world into a - COMIC BOOK!"

"While I've witnessed incredible abilities, I can't claim to have ever known anyone to transform the entire planet."

Denzel turns his head, and lowers his face, his eyes eyeing upwards at Helen behind his glasses. He pauses for a moment before, "Do tell."

"I work with creatures known to myth and legend, creatures many choose to believe do not exist. I've known individuals capable of reading your most deeply hidden thoughts and those powerful enough to destroy entire continents. Each has something to teach us."

"OF COURSE THEY EXIST.... You speak as if they're your friends."

"Some of them are."

[crackpotcrocker]

"......." There's a bit of a pause, "I see." His glasses seem to gleam in a somewhat evil nerdy way, but then this was a man who lusts for power, power in magic form, "And the others?"

"Some are my enemies." There's a hint of anger in those words, but a careful listener might also detect an unmistakable sadness. "Some are simply too dangerous to remain free. But each has its place."

"What do you do with the ones which are too dangerous?"

"We contain them."

"I see." Denzel eyes Helen, "You're a do gooder aren't you?"

No problem!

That actually earns a genuine laugh. "Hardly."

After that harsh stare of 'do gooder' now Crocker is eyeing Helen on trying to figure her out, as well as a 'what'?

"I certainly have my patients' best interests at heart, as well as those under my protection. But I've little concern for society's opinions regarding what is good and evil. I'm not trying to gain recognition or improve my karmic status. I fill a need. Nothing more."

Denzel just sheers as he pulls a side of his mouth, not in a smiling way more of a disgusted matter, exposing some of his disjointed teeth, "Helping people." Tch, so over rated.

"Perhaps it is." She offers a faint smile. "That doesn't mean there isn't a need. A need that, if left unfulfilled, would complicate the lives of even those who don't believe in it."
