Who: Duckbutts--I mean Clive and Sasuke

Summary: Why tension is needed for archery to work
The Log:

((Clive stands with his bow over his shoulder, staring forward a moment and sighing. His quiver of arrows--some broken and delicately repaired--sits at his feet and he puts a hand on is hip and frowns.))

..If you want, that's fine. I doubt I'll be at this more than an hour either way.

Keep trying. I have nowhere else to be.

[ Besides, he prefers being outside. It's more of what he's used to. ]

Alright..

((So he does, drawing arrow at a time and firing on his own. At least now he's hitting the sandbag, but it's not improving too much. It's too soon to improve, really..))

[ In Sasuke's mind, anything would be an improvement. ]

Ah... [ And finally he feels the need to interject. Watching this proceed in this way is a little painful. ] If it is tense, that is alright. Don't be afraid to test it more.

Easier said than done. ((No less, he pulls it back just a little further, and lets go. A nice, deep hit, close to the middle.))

Ah... ((he sets his bow down to sigh a moment.)) No doubt that was luck.

Probably. [ Captain encouragement. ]

But remember how it felt. Then you can repeat it. [ He takes a step or two closer again, clearly ready to physically correct Clive's stance if he again feels the need to. ]

((Clive turns, sort of sudden.))

Do you have to stand so close?

((Tension. Yeah. Something gripped at him--a discomfort. It wasn't that he disliked Sasuke. No. It's this funny agitation that comes up whenever Sasuke approached. He looks angry.... or enough at least. Like something's bothering him. The wrinkle in his brow is enough.))

[ That's unexpected. Sasuke merely regards him for a few moments, well-acquainted with the dislike in his expression but not with the look in his eyes. Not really. And also not with the specific brand of irritation he himself feels in response. ]

I wanted to be sure your hands were placed correctly.

((He regards Sasuke, a little uneasy himself. A pause, and he turns back to his stance.))

Fine.... ((He pulls the bow back into the arrow, and when Sasuke was where he needed to be, drew it.))

[ And of course he moves in, always a critic. Again he grasps one of Clive's hands, lowering it just a little. ]

Keep a straight line. [ Clive is close. Sasuke imagines he can smell him, almost, just the faint hint of soap. ]

Is this what it feels like then?

Ah.

Do not move that front hand and pull back a little further. Not much more.

Okay..

((He's not shooting until he has some approval.))

[ Sasuke's hand remains overtop Clive's just a little too long to be convincingly normal, something that surprises himself. As soon as he notes it he steps away, balling that hand into a fist. ]

Try now.

((Clive lets go. A nice clear shot; the arrow practically buries itself inside their target. A little smile.))

You know, for once, that even felt like a good shot.

Ah. You are getting better. [ He brushes his hand through his hair, pushing his bangs out of his face. ]

Maybe you can try something that moves, soon.

I'll have to, next time I'm hunting. ((sighs.)) You realize Sasuke, before you arrived here, I was the one trapping animals for Flora, Takato, and Guilmon, no?

Give it a week and I really will have something to brag about.

[ A pause... and then an actual expression of muted amusement. ]

I hope that you do. I can show you a lot more than just that, later.

We should hunt, together.

You think?

It could be fun.

"Fun"... Yeah, maybe.

I want to find something big. A challenge. [ Another new word he's learned. This is one he's already very fond of using. ]

I'm sure out in the woods we'd find something "big". Perhaps we should invest in a small expedition outside the city for a while.

As long as you think you will be okay. I can live out here for a while; I know that kind of thing. [ And no one was surprised. ]

You will learn to throw knives, too. [ He's decided this. ]

Alright.. ((a smile. He was getting excited.)) Excellent! We should begin preparing then, no?

I can think of some things we will need. [ A pause. ]

It would be better if I were not... ah. If the chip was gone.

I think you'll be fine with it in, honestly.
