The Log:

[ This is an open log for those who wish to explore Lachesistein freely, and it can take place any time between July 16th and 26th. For more information on Lachesistein, please refer to the Exploration plotting post. If something comes up at all, make sure to contact a mod with your questions or concerns.

[ As Marceline cavorts through the shrouded town and comes across the broken mirrors, she also starts to think that something bad is up. Unlike most people though this doesn't really inspire fear. Maybe a little worry for the friend supposedly trapped here, but mostly curiosity and excitement. What can she say a good spooky mystery is just her style.

By the time she wanders into River she's already seen some things in the fog and slain a few beasts with the giant viking axe-turned-bass guitar. ]

Real or not real?

[ May as well see if this is just another illusion. ]

I wonder if we can find one of those first? Maybe there's a...a store, or something...

Yeah, good thinking. [ He walks a few paces ahead, then reaches out to touch a brick wall. He notes the wall is long, disappearing far into the fog and he nods to Taiwan. ] Think this'll be good?

[then_there_were_none]

[The door now resembling a sadly crumpled lid off of a sardine can, Flandre chitters one, in affirmation, then reaches out for Cirno's hand before cautiously starting down the stairs. Blank papers littered the stairwell and made things slippery, and there weren't many light sources for the rest of the stairwell save for Flandre's own glowing wings and eyes and whatever Marisa conjured up.

At the base, two flights down, there are also two doors. One says "fire escape, alarm will sound" and the other door's sign is missing.]

What's the point of yelling and running? All you'll end up doing is tiring yourself out and attracting the kind of attention that you don't want.

[She'll just slip her hand into his trustingly] Seems like a good place to start!

[Smoker came back to rummage for case files, clues, something, but barring that, he's borrowing paper and making his own. Looks like the zoo animals are going wild, but with all the people gone that's to be expected.

His ears twitch at Little Washu's approach, a hand going for the jitte before he sees the pink hair and grunts.]

Find anything?

-Cirno makes her best attempt at reading the sign, but she's obviously struggling to figure out what it actually means. Stupid English...-

[Marisa walked up a moment later, taking the time to conjure up a small orb of light before moving forward. The orb floated near the brim of her hat for now. She peers at the sign for a good moment or two,]

Alarm huh...As much fun as that sounds, I think we might wanna take the quieter option.

[ Terezi only goes out at night, since that seems when most of the ghost activity begins. She's had no luck with searching the homes (only shattered 8 balls everywhere, which is too unsettling to be a coincidence), and while the graffiti shed some light on the location, Terezi's convinced her best bet are the ghosts.

The library is near the police station, so whenever Smoker walks by it, Terezi will pop her head out from one of the windows and call to him. ]

Hey, you got a minute?

... Okay... [ He pulls her along as gently as he possibly can until they reach a store front.

He's still blushing. He steps up first, though, to push open the door. ] Careful...

[She tugs on the fairy's hand a bit.]

Let's go this way, Cirno.

[And she starts to pull open the other door, the one without the words on it.]

[Though instead of a normal empty doorframe, there's just a black void.

And a face. Which Flandre just stares at for a moment, at least until it reaches out and smacks the top of her head. That makes her jump and squawk and crowhop backwards.]

[She peeks in around the door, calling quietly:] H-hello? Is anyone there?

[ The sudden sound of a child's eerie laughter makes him throw an arm out to block her from entering. His breaths are short, his eyes are wide and it takes a lot of effort not to clench his fists.

He wasn't going to hurt Taiwan's hand after all. ] What the... hell was that... [ It's more than a little creepy, but if there's a child somewhere... it's dangerous here... ] Cut that shit out and c'mere, kid!

[entreats]

That depends on what exactly it is that's hiding in the fog, right? [ a shrug. ] If it's a monster, then we'll just deal with it the same way as we do in Discedo. If it's people.. well, then I guess we should talk to them to find out what even happened here.

[ Eventually, she makes her way back to the school, failure and unsolved mysteries echoing in her wake. If she's honest with herself, she might actually admit to being pretty worried about Karkat (he didn't wake up, WHAT IF HE'S DEAD OR EATEN BY MONSTERS OR EATEN BY BENFROMLOST OR WHAT IF HE ATE BENFROMLOST), but this is Terezi Pyrope, and she's never going to deal with that shit ever.

Denial doesn't mean she won't freeze when she hears his wheezing voice, talking to fuck knows who. About bosombuddies. At the point where Karkat Vantas uses the word bosombuddy, Terezi needs to make sure he hasn't busted his head open and these aren't his dying words.

She bursts in and gets a ginormous whiff of holy shit what is that. ]

Karkat, put your shirt back on! You're going to catch-- You've already caught rabies. [ This time, she makes the effort to grab hold of his arm before he can escape again. Her sudden movements startle the little Tinkerbulls who only wish for love and affection. Terezi gives them a few kicks to the rear instead. ]

[He moves a few steps forward, wanting to pull away from the nose pressed against him. However, he looks back at them and nods.] Thanks.

[It's good to know that they have his back, even though they're both a bit... eccentric. But hey, Steve isn't the type to complain about his comrades, especially during a mission.] It doesn't look like anyone's been here for years.

[River glances over her shoulder once she hears someone approach and automatically has her gun raised. It's a precaution considering how many monster's she's had to shoot so far.]

I assure you I am very real. Everything else? I'm still working on it. And nice guitar. I haven't seen one like it in a long while.

Astute observation! [ She gives Steve a quick pap on the butt in congratulations while staring at America. Terezi Pyrope just touched your hero's butt. Whatcha gonna do about it, punk. However, this girl's on her A game, which means she won't be distracted, and she won't get caught. One pap, that's all. Hell, she's blind. She was probably aiming for his back, right? Right. Terezi continues speaking. ]

It also seems like when people were here last, they never really left. A lot of the graffiti mentions being the "last" or one of the "few" remaining. Which leaves us with three very pertinent questions [ She holds up fingers as she counts. ]: 1) What killed them all-- since I'm assuming they were violently murdered or eaten or something. 2) Is there a chance that whatever it was can come back?, and finally 3) Is whatever-it-is the thing that lured us here? Because we're kidding ourselves if we say we weren't lured.

[ Terezi is too classy for competitive, haughty smirks. She winks in America's direction instead. ]

[At first Smoker thinks he's just still hearing things, but it doesn't sound so desperate as the others. He stops and flicks his ears before looks over.]

Sure, did you find anything?

[The poor thing never saw it coming. Should have though since it was being a little shit anyways.]

Guess you don't feel like playing nice with the monsters?

They basically set us up for a real hit. Could have made Hollywood as the most breath holding attraction. But then they fuck up by turning this into another B rate horror film.

It's almost- [He whips around, because he thought he heard voices. Augh. He forgot that happens here too.] Okay, the voices calling out to us is really annoying though.

You're taking the letters seriously. [Well, okay. Dave might have too. But after finding a whole load of jack shit, he's getting pretty skeptical now.]

Are you listening to yourself? Like seriously. I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you're saying a whole load of bullshit and I think you need to stop. I'm going to actually be concerned with your health and I think you need rest.

A lot of it. Also, probably something to make you feel better, but that's not going to be a thing that's happening since I have nothing of use but this shitty sword.
