Helen wrapped her fingers around her cup, studying the woman across from her with a new perspective. One she found she didn’t mind in the slightest.

“I realize this exploration was primarily about my own curiosity, but I do hope you found it an enjoyable experience as well.”

River has her own cup of tea in her hands is taking a sip. Admittedly, she had her own new perspective about her neighbor and one she was rather liking.

"Don't worry, I definitely did. It's been awhile since I've had that kind of fun."

She covered a smile with her cup, taking a sip of her tea.

"I would have hated to disappoint."

"You were everything but disappointing."

She leans back in her chair and observes Helen in her Doctor's body. "It's strange not seeing him so awkward about this type of thing, but I have to admit, you're rather good."

"I find it difficult to imagine that isn't an endearing quality," she observed, continuing softly, "I've had a number of years in which to practice. Though, admittedly, never in this particular form."

She smiled, turning her attention back to her cup for a moment. "I lived in a time when women weren't expected to be leaders, a standard I'm afraid I abused. I grew quite deft at being a man."

River nods a little as she listens. "I was born in a time where humans were spread through out the universe. Though I did grow up on Earth, in the 20th century."

There's another sip of that delicious tea before she speaks again. "Time travel's a tricky thing. But I wouldn't have have my life any other way. Otherwise I would have never met that incredible man."

"My own experience wasn't so enjoyable. I'm not certain I would do it again, even given the opportunity."

Her trip into her past had left her considerably more fractured than she cared to admit, and it wasn't something she hoped to repeat.

She nods. River's very aware that most people don't have a charmed life. There is always something in the past waiting to rear its ugly head. Especially in hers. "What's stranger, is folding back on your own timeline and being a witness to what's happening and unable to change it."

"Not the word I would have chosen to describe it."

[tardisdiary]

She raises an eyebrow slightly before smiling. "Then how would you describe something like that?"

[ineleven]

It would have been all too easy to brush off her question, change the subject, but she doesn't do that, answering instead, "Agonizing."

That word gains a faint snort into her cup. That was a rather accurate word to describe some of the experiences. Especially having to watch the Doctor die.. twice because of her.

"You have no idea. Now I'm going to guess you were born in the 19th Century, am I right or am I wrong?"

[ineleven]

She tilts her head slightly to the side, more looking through River than at her, just now. "Not all mistakes are easily relived."

That gained her attention again, and she nodded. "I was. Am I so obvious?"

"Only to someone that has visited that particular time period on various occasions." Or studied Earth's history as extensively as she has. "Some mistakes have to be relived in order to let time move on."

There's another sip of her tea as she contemplates something. "So dare I ask what questions you may have?"

"Sometimes rules need to be broken."

She will take that opportunity to change the subject, however. "How is it done? Traveling through time and space. More conveniently than in my world, I should hope."

[tardisdiary]

"Oh its very convenient. The Doctor has a TARDIS. Simply put, she's a time machine that allows for her occupants to travel through the heart of the time vortex itself.

Of course if you let a certain Timelord drive, you'll never know where you end up."

Another sip and a fond smile. River did miss the old girl terribly.That, and it was fun to show off to The Doctor just how much better she could drive the time machine then he could.

"She?"

[tardisdiary]

"Yes, 'she'. The TARDIS has a personality all her own."

[ineleven]

"How fascinating. And does she interact with you?"

[tardisdiary]

River nodded as she set her cup down. "The first time I set foot on her after this regeneration. I was taught how to fly her."

[ineleven]

"She taught you? Or he did?" She gestured vaguely to herself.

[tardisdiary]

The thought of The Doctor teaching her made River chuckle. "She did. The Doctor doesn't know how to fly her properly."

[ineleven]

"I get the impression he would prefer it that way."

[tardisdiary]

"You'd be right. The Doctor likes to do things his way. I wouldn't love him if he didn't."

[ineleven]

"And what about you, River? I've a feeling you aren't the type to take orders easily."

[tardisdiary]

"I wonder what gave you that idea."

She just smirks sightly and picks up her cup again and takes a sip.

"You're right you know."
